The Music Is My Medicine
© 2004 Christie Aitken
When life starts to burn and I don’t know which way to turn
My head is aching so I grab my guitar and strum it nice and hard
I fill my lungs and close my eyes, the sound it satisfies
Slowly feel my body abide, it will subside
The music is my medicine, can you see?
The music is my medicine, it don’t cost a thing, it’s free
I do the things I must to get me through the day
But it’s music that I trust to cleanse my mind when I play
For a little slice of time I feel it all unwind
I’m not a slave to the daily grind, I’m lost in my mind
The music is my medicine, the sound soothes my soul
It opens up and lets me in, the music is my medicine
Sometimes it’s a slow melody, humming along just me
Other times it’s fierce and loud, thundering through a crowd
When my last day comes, it’s music that I want to hear
Ringing out with pounding drums so loud and clear
The song always carries me on a refreshing high
It makes my spirit fly so free and that is simply why
The music is my medicine, can you see?
The music is my medicine, it don’t cost a thing, it’s free
The music is my medicine, the sound soothes my soul
It opens up and lets me in, the music is my medicine
